Revisited Waiting

The surplus,

The running,

The Tailgating.

It doesn't really matter,

They'll move on without you.

A name on a sheet of paper,

A passenger

A flyer.

The snailing through black-taped lines to get from point A to B.

The angry looks,

The curiosity,

The little girl who lost her teddy.

The man sitting on his

coffin

The man sitting on his home, a traveling Salesman.

With his home.

A packed bag of goods that whisper to him bits of memory,

His ex-wife and estranged children.

Of when he was happily married and then cheated on.

Of when he last spoke to his now gay son.

And the school girls gossip about petty things,

About their boyfriends.

About their high school enemies,

About their little brother’s porn stash.

They reminisce about better things.

Like their parents.

And their teachers who work so hard to discipline them.

The last time they went to the beach.

And we wait.

The flight attendant stands at the end of the cabin.

She points to the seatbelt sign and then non-smoking.

She escapes to the lavatory after the plane has taken off.

Inhaling a line of cocaine, she dabs its remnants against her gums.

And we wait.

Flight attendant serves the man liquor.

The school girls get peanuts.

The little girl tells her mother to get apple juice and to find her teddy bear.

Mid-air,

Tur bu lance,

Scream ing—fran tic breath ing.

The man sees the little girl’s lost teddy bear,

The little girl is crushed against her mother’s chest.

Oxy gen mask- skin graft.

One flight attendant tells the passengers to fasten their seat belts.

He is flung to the left of the cabin.

Then the right. A disk in his spin slips.

The other flight attendant is too inebriated to assist the passengers. She

goes into cardiac arrest.

The man braces himself to his seat.

He sees the little girl’s teddy bear and gets out of his seat.

His eye is gouged out when reaching for the bear,

It was stuck within the door of the overhead compartment.

The school girls pee themselves as their seat belts dig into their flesh.
