I’ll listen to the train horns in
the
Distance as I think about you
leaving me.
How close they sound but you never
see
Them. At night when I rest my eyes
and
Listen to my neighbors alleviate
their
Stress through dance, I hear the
trains
Cry from a distance. I imagine that
I am
Standing there on my own just
Watching them go by, like the girl
out of
Some old fashioned chick-flick. And
it
Groans, as if another train is in
front of
It, and it screams because it wants
to be
Heard. And at night, when I close my
Eyes I think of the time we spent
Together, the short-lived passion we
had
When held in each other’s arms. And
I
Think of whether or not you’ve lied
to
Me, whether or not you tried to love
Me, and the theatrical ‘pain’ you
carried
In your eyes. And the train cries in
the
Distance, when you could never even
Stay the night.
