We have traveled up levels and stairs,
Never too far but never too near.
We have gone up escalators and stairs.
I've watched you watch me for the longest.
With a smug look of curiosity,
You always stared down at me.
And I will pass you still,
As you tumble down the broken conveyor.
And you will stutter, stumble and call for me again and again.
But you forgot me once, in the rush of it all.
You led me to the bottom and we separated in the end.
Left to fend for myself, running, out of breath.
Once I had reached the top you had vanished.
You did not wait and I had this firm line across my face.
And you became invisible and all I remember is this artful expression that I kissed.
