You're Like a Balloon

Thought you’d be forever the same, when’d you become so easy to change? Can’t remember the last time we laughed this hard.

Let’s go back to when we were kids, go back to all the cheesy smiles and when I was so much taller than you. Let’s go back to when you were the indescribable midget that had a really big head.

We can’t figure out how to get down.

Let’s play a quick game of Ring Around the Rosey, this time I’ll make sure you don’t fall down, I promise I’ve got both hands, let’s just spin and spin, till our dizzy stomachs yell at us in remorse. I’m sure we’ll laugh it off like we usually will won’t we?

I just can’t figure out why I can’t keep you down.

Okay, alright, we’re still kids but I promise you’re not going anywhere this time around! I’ll go get some bricks and tie them to your legs, so this time you won’t float away; I’ve got your hands again so let’s walk so far, far away. I’m sure we’ll laugh it off like we usually will won’t we?

I just can’t figure out how to keep you down.

Come on buddy lets run away to the place where we can play all day, I promise that the candy is unguarded and it’s almost impossible to get any cavities. In this place I’ll laugh because I’m sure you won’t have that funny gap. I’ve got your back and I’m here all the way. I’m sure we’ll laugh it all off like we usually do… won’t we?

I’ve figured out that I just can’t keep you down.

White balloon, black balloon, red balloon, orange balloon, yellow balloon, green balloon, pink balloon, purple balloon, blue balloon; I’ve decided to buy you the rainbow but you’ll only get them if you don’t float away. Pinky promise and I’ll supply you with a different color every day. Even if you lose every color I’ll try to smile a goofy smile so the shine from the sun might deflect the colorful rainbow. I’m sure we’ll laugh it off like we usually do won’t we?

I still haven’t figured out how to keep you down…

I’ve tried pins and tape and rope and even the silliest thing of all--my own two hands, and it still didn’t work. Like an angry little kid I’ll run away to the unguarded candy with the little Swedish Fish that swim in the Cotton Candy sky, with the Chocolate flowing river and where the White Chocolate rabbits run around. It’s crazy to find out that this will only let you down but this time I’ll be the little kid so you can follow me, for sure this time I know you won’t float away. I’m sure we’ll laugh it off like we usually do won’t we?

I’m the only thing you need to keep you down.

  1. This was so beautiful, like, seriously, I wonder who you were thinking about, but omg, like, I love how you started out, "Thought you’d be forever the same, when’d you become so easy to change?" I know everyone's thought that about someone once, see, this is why I say your like, the best freaking writer, ever. BTW, did you finish that story?
